The CDCP, explained for patients in Waterloo

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal program that helps cover dental costs for Canadians without private insurance, based on household income.

Who qualifies: Canadian residents with no access to private dental insurance and an adjusted family net income under $90,000. Coverage is highest for households under $70,000, with co-payments rising above that.

What it covers: preventive care (exams, cleanings, X-rays), fillings, extractions, and dentures, among other services. Some treatments need pre-authorization. Cosmetic work isn't covered.
