Preparing your mouth
Some mouths need work first — removing failing teeth, treating gum problems, or placing implants if you’ve chosen the secured option. Healing after extractions or implants can take weeks to months, and we’ll tell you honestly what yours needs.

Measuring and try-in
Your dentures are made to your exact measurements, and you try a preview version before the final set is finished. This is the moment to speak up about how they look and feel — changes are easy here and harder later.

The first few weeks
New dentures feel big and strange at first — everyone’s do. Expect extra saliva, a lisp that fades as you practise speaking, and sore spots where the denture rubs. Come back for adjustments; most people need a few before things settle.

Your gums and jaw keep changing shape, so a denture that fit well will loosen over the years. Relines refit the inside surface, and we check the fit at your regular visits.

Questions people actually ask
How long does it take to get used to new dentures?
Most people need a few weeks. Start with soft foods cut small, practise speaking out loud at home, and expect some sore spots early on — those mean the denture needs adjusting, not that you’re doing anything wrong. We adjust the fit until it settles.
Will my dentures move when I eat or talk?

How long do dentures last?
A well-cared-for set commonly lasts five to ten years, but your mouth keeps changing shape the whole time. Regular relines keep the fit comfortable, and we check it at your routine visits.
Should I sleep in my dentures?
We generally suggest taking them out at night to give your gums a rest, and cleaning them daily with a denture brush — not regular toothpaste, which can scratch the surface.
